Authenticity!

Writer: yarademomdyarademomd

Honestly and authenticity are two of my core values and they are intimately related. I view authenticity as being honest about how we feel and honoring ourselves in every behavior we do. Something that I struggled with in the past (and still do at times) is people pleasing. What had helped me is realizing that when I am people pleasing, I am not honoring two of my core values: honestly and authenticity. When I people please, I do not speak my mind and I do not honor my wants and needs. The results are saying or doing things I do not want to do (which is dishonest) and not honoring myself and my needs in my responses (not being authentic). While this realization has helped me drastically, I find others around me not happy with my honestly. They prefer that I hide my true feelings and try to please them. They see honoring my wants and needs as a selfish act. How do you balance authenticity and being true to yourself and being viewed as selfish, especially in the workplace?
